I'm an avid fan of the R type series and have been playing it since the first arcade cabinet got plugged in at my local arcade back in the 80s. I own all the games and after my first hour playing this one I was disappointed. Just something wrong with the game. The controls are clunky, sometimes there seems to be lag and the ship doesn't respond instantly. Its frustrating as you die many times because of this. I also noticed that the beam weapons sometimes don't impact correctly(even passing through enemies) sometimes. Other times you destroy an enemy but it still kills you afterwards As others have said sometimes there's too much happening onscreen and you cant differentiate what you fired and what is incoming. And what's with just 3 ships? At least with in R type final PS2 you got a new ship randomly through the game as you break a record or progressed. There are sections of the game you can get stuck because powerups are scarce and sometimes dont even appear. I find normal is quite difficult, I'm stuck on level 3 but I've only had it 12 hours. I dont overly have a problem with that though. It is visually nice but that's not difficult nowadays and I feel this game lacked polish and seems more of a rush job. The cinematics are meh. Also extra levels you have to pay for is a clear money grab. For me R type final for PS2 is still the best and this game doesnt come close. I own 2016 Doom and the originals. This isn't anything like 2016 Doom, it's a lazy copy with a bunch of garbage added on like Bethesda listened to a bunch of 13 year olds. It reminds me of the Simpson's when homer designs a car for his brother. This is that car, the homer. Just way too many side weapons, too much garbage,you forget half the time which button does what, these side weapons are critical in battles which doesn't make sense. And the battles are sometimes so cluttered, you can get stuck/glitch into the walls or stage. It gets very frustrating which seems to be the only reason I play this game now, out of frustration. I'd like to get my money's worth. I ENJOYED playing 2016 Doom, I didnt enjoy this. Speaking of money, constant advertising of add-ons is just annoying. Stop it The reason for 2 stars is they put some effort into the storyline but did they ever go way off base on the storyline. I prefer the original story instead of a floating old mansion in space. Bethesda whatever happened 3 years ago you need to undo what you did. Your games have fallen terribly from the standards you once had. Trading quality for quicker profits will see your company retreat to a smouldering pile soon and this is one customer that once bought alot of your games, no more.

I literally just installed this game and haven't even started playing on my PS4 and the intro is twitching enough to give a normal person a seizure. I reloaded this game 4 times to see if it was something else. 1 out of 4 times it ran smooth. Then there's the user agreement which I actually read which apart from the usual clauses basic states that techland is basically not liable for making a garbage game and you receive the game in a "as is" state with no warranty. Ironically they mentioned there is no game breaking bugs, isn't that what patch 1.06 was needed for? To stop death loop? Sony I'm extremely disappointed that your letting poor quality controlled games hit the console before they are finished. I now refuse the notion of buying a PS5 Words fail me

DO NOT purchase this game. I have noticed some game companies are now in business to sell you a license to use the game but not to actually own the game. Blizzard make it mandatory to accept the terms and conditions, for the entire game ( not just online). In the terms they give you the option that if you decline the terms to receive a refund by returning the game. I downloaded from PS store so no information available for that... They have made it extremely difficult to get a refund, which is done online. None of the links to this process work and I'm currently in process of getting money refunded through the bank as it seems to be the only route to take. Blizzard is a shady company and will never, ever buy another game from this company again. Ever! You have been warned!!
