Have watched this now, twice. First time, 4 years ago...revisited it now on Britbox and again loved it. Set in Norfolk, it was evocative of big skies, rural landscape and, nothingness....Charlotte Rampling absolutely captured the role of long standing established, wife, finding out her Husband's secret past and knowing - absolutely - that her life was changing; the icy truth, that he had 'settled' for a (presumably) child less existence, growing old together with his Wife from whom he had hid so much.
I would have loved 'part two' to see what was left of the Marriage , the morning after the excruciating 'first dance' at the Anniversary party.
But I guess, the skill of the writer is to leave that unsaid. So sad, to find that out what she did, when it is 'too late' And, sometimes it truly is.....this film captures this and shoves it in the viewers consciousness....uncomfortable viewing but searing in its delivery.
