Spoilers ahead. You've been warned.
A movie that uses a series which is heavily premised on all counts, by monsters duking it out at the end of whatever form of media is being used.
Are there monsters?
Yes.
Are there monsters fighting? Well... Technically, yes.
Is it conventional by any means? No.
Godzilla: Planet Eater is the third installment of the Netflix's Anime movie titled "Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters", and a direct sequel to "Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle."
However, unlike the prior installments, there is an excess of unneeded drama in a monster bash film/cinema that does little more than pad runtime, and also steal spotlight from what we all came to see.
The end 'fight,' if you would be gracious enough to call it that, sums up to nothing more than drama between Metphies and Haruo in the end, and when that subsides, Godzilla shoots atomic breath at the sky.
Even King Ghidorah isn't represented in his proper glory, being reduced to snake heads in the sky, instead of the three headed screeching dragon we all know and love/hate.
Much more than that though, the fight can be summarized by just saying King Ghidorah grabs Godzilla 20k, Haruo believes in the power of mankind or some such nonsense, pops an eyeball, and Godzilla atomic blasts King Ghidorah's three entry points out of existence. And then closure for the characters of the film, ending with praise for the monstrosity that completely eradicated human existence.
An extremely anticlimactic ending for the King of Monsters's 32nd installment overall, and a depressing trilogy due to the ending.
If you're more into drama than monsters duking it out, however, you will enjoy this. As for me, I'm personally worried why Toho Studios have drifted away from their successful formula of good monster fights, light drama.
Notable mentions: Mothra has an extremely small cameo.
