Europeans regard advancement as being represented by large buildings and an ability to use resources to the benefit of mankind. Are we not now talking about a process where we will stop using the earth’s resources this way? Being less materialistic? Living a more simple life? The original inhabitants of Australia were healthy, relaxed, had music and art, places to live, food abundance, no diabetes or rotten teeth etc. We introduced them to alcohol and sugar and their bodies saw these as too foreign to cope with. To catch protein they used the boomerang. It even came back if you missed. They were an intelligent people who lived a peaceful lifestyle except when they argued with another tribe. No traffic jams, no pollution, no career pressures, no working nine to five every day. Some people are trying to reduce all those negatives and may be heading towards a lifestyle resembling that of our nation’s first people. Sounds like a good plan, but I would miss my violin and piano.
