I read the books of The hunger games and I also read the ballad of songbirds and snakes. This movie was pretty accurate considering a lot of what happens in the book is inside Snow's head. When I first started reading the book I wasn't sure if I wanted to be on the protagonist side, as I knew what a monster he becomes in the hunger games. But while reading the book, I came to realize that every time you thought Snow was going to be a good person with heart and something happened that turned him evil, he destroys it by making the wrong choice.. every. time. And what's worse is that he thinks he's making the correct choice. I think the movie captured that perfectly. You're not supposed to like snow. You're not supposed to root for him. He is and will forever be the villain in The hunger games.
I know a lot of people are upset because they didn't like Snow and Lucy Gray was an upstart, a noisy teen girl, but that is really how it happened in the book. I do wish there were a couple of key points in the movie, which were in the book like the roses and the girl who got bit by snakes earlier story. But I think for the overall storyline it all fit really well and can easily lead into the hunger games trilogy 60 years later.
I personally like it and will definitely be watching it more with my hunger games binges
