An intensely gripping political drama, brilliantly acted. Just as relevant today(perhaps more so). The film addresses the nature of law and justice and the innate prejudice against black activists. Redmayne’s stand in the final scene is unforgettable. His has been a complex and nuanced portrayal throughout but his final stand demonstrates conviction and integrity.

Le Carre doesn’t translate easily to film, with so many undercurrents. It is difficult to follow at times, but the acting is excellent and carries it through. Perry ( Ewan Mac) is a perfect Le Carre innocent caught up in a web of deceit and violence. An honourable man, as is (paradoxically) the money laundering Dima, ‘our kind of traitor’. It’s worth watching for the subtle exploration of honour, loyalty, and family values.

More nuanced in the relationships than I expected. Difficult to accept colonial attitudes and behaviour but a common humanity kept breaking through. Battle scenes confronting and brutal, no attempt to glorify war.

Not an easy film (but then, when was Le Carre easy), because there is nothing straightforward and easy about human nature. No black and white, multiple shades of grey. Brilliant acting that plumbs the intricate (sometimes convoluted) convictions and emotions of the characters. Facial expression is subtle in its implications. It requires the viewer to swing from condemnation to understanding, and even respect. Explores the difficulty of making easy judgements.

The best horse movie ever. A romantic presentation of the brumbies maybe, but it makes for exhilarating viewing.

Great scenery. Australians somewhat stereotyped. Quigley great on humour, nice touches.

Classic action. Classic acting. Just retribution drives the ‘goodies’ whereas greed drives the ‘baddies’. The tension between the two nicely maintained right until the final classic shoot out, beautifully choreographed.

The paradox of growing young questions the whole concept of ageing and dying. Intelligently acted by both Pitt and Blanchett, never falling into the predictable and the sentimental. One of those films that challenge the Norms of life and make you rethink what you thought you knew.

Exceptional directing and photography. Beautifully integrated sense of the wonder of the natural world and the ravages of war.

Disappointing. It presents the CubanMissile crisis over simplistically and Manksy’s role is hardly credible. Too many characters are just pawns in the game (pun intended), lacking any clear characterisation or credibility. At times it is difficult to distinguish who is who, and who is doing what. The Soviets are invariably presented as the baddies, adding to the lack of nuance in the film as a whole.
