The scene of Nettie and the preacher man's family landing on The shores of Africa was the climax for me in this movie. Watching the display of the rich African culture and hearing the sound of music in Twi - "Akwaaba" meaning 'Welcome' from the Gold Coast (Ghana) drove goosebumps down my spine. I had to rewind and watch that scene over and over again.
And then came Ciara (Nettie), walking in on that dinner day with Ceila's kids dressed in that Ghanaian Kente costume and his son introducing his wife Abena (another famous Ghanaian female name) to his mum (Ceila) was just extraordinary. The showcase of the Kente cloth must be worth something.
And till today, Fantasia Barrino (Ceila) still has one of the best voices I've ever heard. The cast were all amazing, Taraji Henson (Shug Avery) always comes into character with her best self, she was amazing and she's got the voice too. On the whole, this is awesomely the best 2hrs+ time ever spent.
