Unique, remarkable movie that l just saw for the first time. (5/15/23) One becomes a voyeur in a stranger's life, and she does not know l am there. One has to settle into the experience- what, l'm going to watch her wash every single dish?! But once l accepted the premise, l could hardly wait to get back in that apartment, that street, another's life. (I watched it in several stages- no fast-forwarding.) As someone else commented, if we feel impatient with the boring tasks (although I was mesmerized at the same time), imagine how suffocated she felt, making the ending quite understandable, if not societally acceptable. Such a dignified, orderly woman must also have had a hard time accepting how she earned money (retail work in Brussels paid that badly? No other options?) At the end, l read her face as expressing satisfaction that her life was now going to change and she wouldn't have to do THAT any more or all the other stuff. She did love her son, but still loaded herself up with unnecessary tasks and burdens for him (kid is old enough to polish his own shoes, and who cares about buttons matching, etc.) So, big thumbs up, but only if you love all kinds of movies - this is pretty weird, but l'll never forget it and will never see it again.
