For years, Hollywood has made films about Bonnie and Clyde. The public treated them as superstars. 'The Highwaymen' tells the story of Frank Hamer (Costner) and Maney Gault (Harrelson) and their involvement in hunting down the notorious couple.
Don't expect this to be filled with action though. A majority of the film follows the road investigation that ultimately led to the confrontation with Bonnie and Clyde. Because of this, they and their crimes aren't shown very often. Most references are made from radio broadcast, newspaper headlines and police reports. Despite this, I thought it was a good film. Costner and Harrelson are both strong actors and the two of them made a good pair.
If you're a history buff, this isn't going to be a historically accurate tale. It was filmed very well. The acting was excellent, the scenery and sets felt authentic. Costner did a great job of portraying Hamer in the sense that Hamer had a job to do. (He may not have liked what he had done or had to do, but he did it because it needed to be done.) I would recommend this film and rate it at a 7/10
