I only watched this movie, because i am a sean connery fan. I also love a good western. Sean connery stars as an ex military man, who tries (and fails) to persuade a group of upper class english buffoons (and one german) to abandon their hunting trip and leave an indian reservation, before they are massacred by the native indians, for trespassing. Its certainly not your regular western (because its full of europeans), which is ok if your a brit, but i doubt the americans would like it. Decent ( if not spellbinding) performances by the main protagonists keep the viewer engaged for spells. Sean Connery himself looks very competent on a horse and if it wasnt for his accent, he could easily pass as a cowboy. I am also a john wayne fan and like it, or not, i cant help but compare leading men in a western to J W. S C does ok as the masculine hunk cowboy, but he is no JW. There are some decent action sequences and some lovely shots of the great western planes. I have to say that overall, the score out of ten would be six. With the likes of clint eastwood and john wayne to choose from, it doesnt come close. But its good enough, if you have 2 hours to kill. Finally, there is one scene that i didn't like. The opening sequence show the hunting party torment (which you do see) and then kill (which you dont see) a mountain lion. just for sport. ps. Brigitte Bardot looks stunning, but cant act for s**t.
