With a few listens, you are enveloped in the heartbreak, sorrow, and lament of this exemplary death metal. My first experience was immediately met with amazement. The amalgamation brought forward a sound that is both powerful and beautifully melodic, lent a lot by sometimes tear jerking passages through its use of folk. The lyrics literal poetry while the music itself is enough to speak volumes by itself. As with any album where a band is trying to find their voice, In the Halls of Awaiting is excellent despite being one of Insomnium's earliest works. True metalheads may find a rare jewel here. Otherwise, the strange brew of elements might not provide what you are looking for. If doom metal, death metal, folk, and poetry combined might do the trick for you, then this album is an absolute must. Give it a chance while opening your heart.
