I bought this book after listening to Dr Conor Brady speak on a podcast. His arguments for feeding your dog a raw meat diet were very convincing and the book was really useful as a resource to turn to when I need of clarification or explanation of his views. The book is a superb source of references, everything he states is backed up by reference to a scientific paper or papers. At the time that I heard the podcast I was the new owner of a working cocker spaniel, a companion to my wife and I. I followed Dr Brady’s advice and have now been feeding Maisie a raw meat and vegetable diet for nearly four years. I buy the meat and veg from the supermarket and add in dried kelp and brewers yeast supplied by a pet food company. I also add in feathers scavenged on our daily long walks and occasional extras such as egg or fish. The bulk of the preparation takes about an hour to make 12 plastic containers of food which then go into the freezer and are defrosted in the fridge 48 hours before feeding Maisie. Feeding her dried food would be more convenient but might add in more work coping with a less healthy dog and I don’t feel that an average of 5 minutes a day to prepare her food is too much to ask in exchange for a fit, happy healthy dog.
So far Maisie has been very active and healthy and when she has seen a vet to examine her for a “pet passport” they have commented on her healthy teeth and gums.
I would (and do) recommend this book to all dog owners and feel immense gratitude to Conor Brady for his hard work.
