This was a movie designed for fans of the game who didn't get what they wanted from the previous RE franchise. Despite some cinematic shortcomings and the necessity to consolidate, omit or alter canon from the games, the films succeeds in its purpose. I would have rather seen RE 1 and RE 2 handled in two separate films. Some characters have been changed in service of racial balance. I get that. Times change and the largely white cast from the original benefits from the update. I do however take issue with the portrayal of Leon S Kennedy as a bumbling rookie. It didn't serve the story nor honor the source material.
