This is a TV series like no other I have seen. Some liken it to Breaking Bad, which was extraordinary as well. The first two episodes are a slow burn, and we almost did not continue, until I read some feedback…..keep going. So glad we did. We just watched episode 5&6 and have not finished the series yet.
Episode 5 beautifully exhausted and exhilarated me at the same time. Every move by Andrew Scott was so deliberate and so real. He is a phenomenal actor, making me think he truly is a psychopath. Sitting down, relieved after leaving the Appian Way, and then remembering he forgot a detail. The cat, Lucio, watching his every move, looked like he judged Ridley right from the beginning. Every frame of cinematography a masterpiece. Look at the frame of Freddie in the morgue, outlined by the opening in the staircase. The staircases themselves. Ripley attempting to leave Rome, places his suitcase by the door, only to hide it quickly away. The close ups of the ashtray as the detective stubs his cigarette.
And the bloody cat pawprints IN RED on the white marble stairs. Brilliant! Episode 6 was a bit anticlimactic for me, as it somewhat lacked the beautiful, slow moves and perfect framing of episode 5. But still edge of the seat breathtaking. I cannot wait to watch the last two episodes, and be sad it’s over.
But then I can watch it again!!!
