My wife and I have owned our own interior design business for twenty five years. We know the business well and alll the thought, time, energy, attention to detail, etc that leads to a beautiful result. Most of the shows on TV do not present the reality of how the design process really works nor focus on the actual design. It’s more about the drama of unrealistic timelines, the clashing of personalities, the “emergency” situations that arise, etc.
Jean Stoffer is a tremendous talent, and it’s wonderful to see her present timeless, classic, quality, thoughtful design rather than on trend cookie cutter spaces that have no soul. The way you see the process work on her show, albeit it has to be edited to fit the time allotted, is actually how the process works. She collaborates with clients, listens to what it is that they are dreaming of, and then uses her talent to execute on that and deliver results that exceed what they thought possible. She is down to earth, kind, respectful, and her family seem like lovely people as well. We love that she is inspired by British design and curating timeless homes in a great American town like Grand Rapids, MI. Bravo to Jean, Grace and their team. “The Established Home” is an appropriate title, and a breath of fresh air in a sea of predictable, on trend design shows.
