For the confused millennial, jibber jabber.. in 1979 before you were born. The Original movies Alien was a truly ground breaking film, it also came before The Thing (1980).
Nobody had really seen Ridley Scott’s directorial style before. Women should be the ones most proud of the accomplishments. This was the first movie to exhibit a true a female protagonist that survives. It set the standard for female action stars that would come.
No CGI effects, horrific and disturbing creature designs a far cry from the rubber monsters of the 50s and 60s. It had disturbing sexual/rape imagery with said monsters and reproductive process that was a far cry from what we considered normal as human,, it was truly Alien.
It had amazing cinematography for the time period. The idea of space flight being just a blue collar job in the future, was a totally new concept. So look up the actual history of the movie before you call it "boring"...
You cannot compare films of 1970s fairly to films of today... But for 1979 it was a box office smash, a ground breaking movie for women and one of the scariest movies of the time. It set the standard for female heroines that would come later.
