Excellent, crime, suspense drama as a vehicle to explore how victims, usually but not always women, of serious sexual assault are perceived and treated by government agencies and the Public. It highlights the lack of training and persisting prejudice and misogyny of many but not all male police officers.
The lack of contact and effective communication between county police forces allowed a sexual predator to remain undedicated for years. I really liked the emphasis on team work, the grind of detail, cross referencing and sheer slog involved in tracking down the offender.
Superb acting, well written and moving. I thought the opening episode was a very effective way of contrasting the different styles and quality of policing and how easily a young and vulnerable victim can be made, unjustly, into a pariah.
It also explores the continuing psychological effect such crimes have on the victim BUT without descending into the titillating voyeurism this genre tends to revel in and which feeds into unhealthy attitudes toward women. Spare a thought for police officers who deal with more than one case and have to examine the evidence they uncover.
All good reasons to have more women directors and producers.
