I was blown away at age 5 with the graphics on the old but huge CRTV. Even on N64, to my underdeveloped pupils and eyes, I knew that I was experiencing something that I had never expected at the time. Vigor, honor, fun, entertainment. Being placed as the protagonist of Fox McCloud as he fights on several planets, to then the final villain boss Andross at the end. The level designs all seemed to make sense, each planet had their own theme. At least 4+ levels have "alternative" paths where your actions in the level can directly dictate the future path, in other words, consequences has actions! The music designs and sound effects all have a unique feeling of putting you in the zone, from fighting the final boss to the creepy ambience of a level that is "like an oven". Overall, I would say even the matchups hold up today in terms of difficulty, maneuvering, and what you could get away with on an N64. Even the villains are memorable and seem to have a bit of personality, along with your allies.
