All the hallmarks of a Stephen King story - a drunk, a skeptic, a savant, a minion with a struggle of conscience, mention of a battle between good and evil. High overtones, down to earth story. What's most interesting for me is that every character stands out as unique, well-defined. No one melts into another, no character is redundant, even with many of them being law enforcement. Excellent story, very well told.
