SPOILER ALERT !!!
“Blink Twice” had a lot of potential, but it fell short in several key areas:
- The comedic dialogue in the scene where the two female leads, Frida and Sarah, discover the hidden gifts felt out of place. If you just uncovered something disturbing, sarcasm and humor wouldn’t be the natural response. This attempt at comedy broke the tension and seemed unrealistic, given the gravity of the situation.
- In the scene where Sarah and Frida become aware of the sinister plot and try to act as if they know nothing in the dinner table, the acting came off as unconvincing. Their expressions clearly showed panic, which would naturally raise suspicions. When Sarah gives a speech about empowering women, it felt like it was a wrong move and it should’ve risen suspicions. Realistically, Slater should’ve right away understood that these girls knew sth. if you were hiding something and the people around you started behaving strangely, you’d immediately suspect they know what you’re up to.
- After chaos ensues, there’s a line where Frida says sth like “Let’s go visit the boys.” This line felt like something out of a Marvel movie, which didn’t fit the tone of what is supposed to be a psychological thriller with such a dark plot. It was jarring and took away from the suspenseful atmosphere.
-Also the fact that the women were r**** repeatedly every night, It’s implausible that they wouldn’t notice, as there would be obvious physical signs, especially given the repeated nature of the abuse. This plot element needed more thoughtful handling to make it believable.
The final scene felt incredibly cheesy. It seemed like an attempt to subvert expectations by going against the norm, but it left viewers with too many questions. For instance, when Frida puts the drug in the vape, Vic (one of the men) was still alive and on the couch, why didn’t he warn Slater about it? How did Slater instantly forget everything after one blow? And if Frida became the CEO of the company and took all of Vic’s fortune, why is she still keeping him around? The motivations and logic behind these choices were unclear.
Overall, I’d rate “Blink Twice” a 5 out of 10. I appreciated the build, the colors, the cuts, and the sound design. And, of course, Channing Tatum and Alia Shawkat’s performances were a solid 10/10. But a lot of unnecessary scenes, very bad lines , bad acting (except channing and alia )and of course very bad ending.
