SPOILERS
If I was just watching the seasons before the second radiation wave, maybe I would give it four stars. At the beginning, it has so much potential as long as you ignore basic logic and pretend it’s a fantasy. It makes sense why Clark would be the leader initially but then she continues to be after REPEATEDLY showing that she doesn’t know what she’s doing.
One the rest of the people came down from the ark it started to get worse. It makes sense that the 100 would have problems with the grounders but not the ADULTS and leaders for the last 100 years on the ark. But they come down and immediately decided to kill them all?
The characters decisions also start to make no sense. I understand why Clark would kill Finn to avoid the torture but there were so many other options! He just turned into a horrible person all to save Clark just for him to turn himself in and her to kill him? And then they just never mention him again. Especially for Raven, she grew up her whole life with this guy and my season 7 she basically never thinks of him. And where’s the development with Clark? She kills Finn and then does the same thing to Bellamy in the end but it’s even less justified. Clark and Bellamy were CLEARLY supposed to end up together but she kills him and then literally everyone is just like “oh it’s okay Clark, he was saved by a beaming light and believes something now so he’s crazy. Don’t feel bad” Clark spends the whole show talking about how you don’t need revenge and then kills hundreds of people and then her best friend for Madi.
So weird that Murphy is painted as the betrayer - which he never followed through with completely but he also has great character development.
Jasper was such a good character at the beginning. He brought some comedy and was just generally likable - until Maya died. That was just SO annoying. He knew her for like two months? And they spent the whole time trying not to die like it’s not like they really knew each other. Of course he would be sad but leading to choose to die and start some suicide cult because one of his possible romantic acquaintances died? Clark lost Finn, Bellamy, her parents, and Wells she is just like whatever? Literally SO frustration.
The show also lacked any casual scenes. We don’t even really know the characters because we have no idea how they are like normally. That’s why the show was so much better in the beginning. Otherwise, they are ALWAYS fighting. Like they skipped past the six years after the second fire and didn’t think to include any scenes of them being happy and bonding? Same for the five years that Octavia and Echo and Hope spent locked up. Could have been way better with that.
Madi’s character is kind of frustrating because they constantly talked about how powerful the flame is and how Lexa was so good from a young age because of it but then Madi has literally no idea what she’s doing and is super childish?
After they left earth, it was just terrible. The story line was super y and at this point it’s hard to care at all what happens to them. After they finally reach “transcendence” (a lazy end to the story) they all decide never mind and come back for Clark? Clark has literally betrayed them all in the last season for Madi and they just forget it. Especially for Jordan and Murphy to come back? Jordan barely knows Clark and Murphy and Emori - the best couple - choose to not spend eternity at peace together? So unrealistic.
But besides all of that - my love for the first two seasons keep me determined until the end to finish it but the show was mostly just missed opportunity. Don’t really regret watching it but disappointed nonetheless.
