As spare as the bald-headed tire in the trunk of one the heaps driven by these two brothers of opposite poles, this movie moves steadily and inexorably toward the unknown ending that you already know is coming, but not exactly how.
The washed-out glare of a sun-baked landscape gives the viewer all the feeling of doomed hope the director intended.
Jeff Bridges plays Jeff Bridges with the same weariness as TL Jones in No For Old Men, and the two brothers -one crazy and doomed, the other, smart and and goal-oriented - play the prey that predator Bridges needs to feel alive, even as his career as a Texas Ranger is about to end.
Unpredictable, funny, and as hot as hell, this is one of the those small, diamond movies that comes along every so often, one that is perfect and unimprovable, from the writing, to the cinematography, to the acting, directing, and even the music.
I loved it.
