Olivia Coleman is such a brilliant actress, compelling and convincing. In The Lost Daughter, personally, I found the storyline uncomfortable; the young Leda may well have been clever, but she was nauseating. Why have children if you find them annoying/distracting? Oh because she has a right to and she has a right to find solace and peace in another man's arms because she is clever? The beautiful Nina also felt trapped in her life, with her besotted husband and threatening, controlling family. Perhaps, this stifling life of a young woman is why Leda felt a connection with her. But they were very different women; Nina was a mother in the true sense of the word, she felt her daughter's anguish which Leda never did. At the beginning of the film, you immediately understand that Leda was very lonely, at the end of the film you know why. The creativity and skill of the actors carried the film.
