Tragicomic is the perfect word. It was pretty unnerving in some ways but also very insightful. I could never completely decide for whom I t felt the most sorry- the mother, Allison's character herself, or the father. The pain in the family is so palpable but it was infused with humor at just the right spots. The end was very moving and the last few frames brought it all together better than I could have hoped. This will not be a graphic novel for everybody and I can imagine it will not be mainstream in high schools in the near future, but as an example of innovative thought-provoking literature, it certainly should be!
