I love historical fiction so was eager to read this book . I’m an Army veteran and had never heard of this unit! While I was excited to learn about them in way of a novel and not textbook it started slowly for me. I listened to it rather than read it, so could not skip ahead, I was listening to it as I was driving. Great historical details but too much build up, I get the author wanted to show they were from diverse backgrounds, but very bright women. I got two of the characters confused , they seemed similar, and sometimes the dialogue seemed forced or artificial. Soldiers, male or female don’t always put on a brave, patriotic face: but can be scared or dissatisfied. Romances were a nice touch. Interesting to read about military women who weren’t nurses but filled another role. Exquisitely researched and detail oriented, just a little overkill at times( do we need food descriptions of what the operators ate for lunch or Sunday dinner while they were still civilians, every characteristic of all their family members? Was a good read though and glad I stuck with it till the end
