At more than 200 minutes, this is an absurdly long, painstaking film to view...I couldn't even finish it. Poor narrative and storytelling with zero background/setup information to start....surprising considering its based on true events. I hope this marks the culmination of Scorsese and DiCaprios professional relationship as its end is obviously long overdue. In fact, its time for Scorsese to hang it up as his true auteur-storytelling and best filmmaking days are far behind him.

If you can make it past the wretched opening song that lingers way too long into the intro, then you'll probably call it quits at the cybersex scene between Law and Owen. Utter nausea! Surprised these two respected British actors agreed to this ridiculous scene and film.

Basically a full-on remake of the original, with of course new, updated cast and fighter planes. Location made a small jump from Miramar to North Island, fighter jets upgraded from F 14 to F-18s. Vague enemy references- jets referred to only as '5th Gen Fighters' and the nuclear target country unnamed. Its obvious this is the perfect machine for TC's monsterously-inflated ego...and obvious that he called most or all the shots in production. Cliches abound, very predictable, often times ridiculously unbelievable, and with the exception 15 mins or so of decent dogfighting action and a poignant scene between Maverick and his old rival and friend Ice Man, a waste of money for the theater viewing. Wait for NFlix.
