This movie isn't at all what I expected---and that's a good thing! Yes, it was disturbing. But I think it did an excellent job of depicting the sadness and trauma that surrounded M's poor life. The actress in this movie did as excellent a job as anyone ever has, depicting her. I didn't expect that, either. I'm generally quite disappointed in any actress's portrayal of her. This actress ( I don't know who she is..) is the best I've seen. I thought the inutero scenes were powerful. They showed a true connection between M and her unborn child. This movie is different from any other of it's kind, and I think that's a good thing. In MM's life, she wanted a baby so badly. All she ever wanted was to be loved by somebody. She wanted it so badly, she tried to be loved by everybody....just trying to make up for that childhood wound that never got healed. And it wasn't a time when people recognized or knew much about getting help for their traumas.....All MM ever got was used and abused. The Kennedy scene was, indeed, vulgar. But, I think it likely is an accurate portrayal of how things were and how vulgar and self serving Kennedy was; She was raped all through that movie: and all through her life, I imagine: the first "rehearsal", even the abortion, when she kept crying, "no, I changed my mind"...she was violated by the medical attendants in a mental ward... She had a hard life. She never learned any boundaries. It would be difficult to, coming from where she did; The scene of her being beaten by her husband showed just a part of how dehumanized, lonely, confused, and frightened she must have been...and everyone took full advantage of that. It isn't the easiest movie to watch, but I think it's the best MM movie, and the actress in this did the best portrayal of her that I've seen. Oh, also, I like that they referred to her having been well read. I watched it a few days ago, and am still thinking about it. It's worth seeing.
