My opinion is definitely unpopular, but I have to say I don't get the hype. I found this movie slow-paced, boring, overly-dramatic, and unrealistic on every metric.
People nowadays think you can just throw in some A-list actors, put a few "meaningful" quotes in a script, and BOOM you have a great movie. It doesn't work like that.
I'm sorry but people who believe this movie is artistic are pretty simple-minded. It was literally written and produced by amateurs. Matt Damon was out of college and wrote his first movie script in this film. Clearly the writing could've been worked on because he tried too hard to be artistic and the story ended up not making any sense.
If I'm going to be watching some cliche, abused, a**hole character go to therapy for two hours, at least make me interested in who he is and why he bothers to show off his special genius gift, but yet doesn't bother to do anything about it. Show me his backstory, don't just tell me over and over through dialogue that he was an abused orphan. The romance (while also unrealistic) was just cringe to watch because it was soooo cliche and predictable. I'm actually just baffled at how anyone could watch this and not feel the need to fall asleep.
Yeah, I'm sorry this movie is not it. It's unrelatable, unrealistic, not moving, boring, confusing, and characters are just unlikeable. Period.
