This is my Favorite Ghibli. Unlike other Ghibli films, From Up on Poppy Hill may seem dull and boring at first look. But that's what exactly made this film standout. From Up on Poppy Hill gives so much life to the typical mundane world. Their journey to save the clubhouse is an adventure of its own, the unity of the students, the dedication Umi, Shiro, and Shun; makes you feel powerful and strong, even without any big stunts like dragons and wands. Other Ghibli movies made me want to live in a fantasy world where wizards and magic creatures are present, From Up on Poppy Hill makes me romanticize living in this simple world in an oh so beautiful way. The soundtrack is amazing, too. I love everything about this film, specially the essence of youth and being carefree, and simplicity it has. This film is like that pause in a conversation, one that is not awkward, but comfortable. I hope I'll enjoy my youth the same way Umi, Shiro, and Shun had. This film depicts that if together, the minority can also be heard. And how students, especially Shun and Shiro, have the power to already be responsible and mature at such a young age, without stripping them off of their childhood. I can't stress how magical and lovely this film is in such a simple way. This film is so realistic, it makes you see the beauty of the world.
