Going against the waves, and not just to set a trend but because I genuinely feel it; The Shape of Water is the worst Oscar winning film I have ever seen till date. Is it just because it’s a Del Toro film? A monster film with a romantic angle?. Or just the set design, the work of the art director, which is the only thing I genuinely liked about the film. I am sorry but I believe either there’s some conspiracy behind this win, or the board altogether fell from their standards. Three Billboards, Get Out or The Florida Project (which surprisingly didn’t even get a nomination!) were way way more deserving.

Two things:- >With this movie, a director is born! >Deserves an oscar nomination, be it for screenplay, direction, editing or maybe best picture.

Kept me glued at the edge of my seat all throughout! Not a single second I felt bored. The plot is very simple, revolving around seven individuals and how a chain of events connect each other, haunting them as karma. All in a night at a hotel... the best part was the director’s attempt to tell the story in the good old back and forth style... kinda reminds me of Pulp Fiction, or Hateful Eight... surely a must watch!!

This movie I guess is an inspiration to the 2012 Hindi supernatural thriller Talaash. What Lies Beneath is a gripping thriller with an unpredictable climax, supported by effortless performances from Pfeiffer and Ford who made their characters look believable. It’s a good one time watch.
