A one-star rating was the lowest I could give this, if there was a zero, it would have been my preference. The Paris Olympics opening ceremony was a significant letdown from the beginning. Instead of celebrating the athletes and the spirit of the Olympics, the event focused excessively on themes unrelated to sports. The emphasis on provocative displays overshadowed the athletes, who should have been the main focus.
This event is meant to honor the dedication and achievements of athletes worldwide, not to showcase controversial performances that seemed out of place. It's disheartening to think about the many children watching, expecting to be inspired by the athletes, only to be exposed to content that many found inappropriate for the occasion.
When the primary reaction is, "What does this have to do with the Olympics?" it's clear the organizers missed the mark. The opening ceremony should be a time-honored tradition, highlighting the athletes and their incredible journeys, not a platform for unrelated and controversial performances.
I spent four hours watching this and felt it was a wasted opportunity to celebrate true Olympic values. I sincerely hope future opening ceremonies will return to a more traditional and respectful format, focusing on the athletes and the unifying spirit of the Games.
