Absolutely terrible. Master Chief Petty Officer? Not in this series. It's Master Cheeks Booty Officer, seeking any opportunity to remove the helmet, or at times, the whole armor set! Not only that, but Johnny Boy Halo loves to cry a lot. Instead of the human race being Reclaimers, there's a garbage "Blessed" or "Chosen" mystic selection storlying with Kwan, who is by far the most boring and pointless part of the show. What a sad excuse for a Halo story.
The writers even admitted that they didn't even play the games or consult with any of the game creators. They wanted "to express themselves in their own creative way". Well they sure have. And man was it a flop.
Chief takes his helmet off way too often. "Oh but it's not plausible to do an entire series without removing the helmet." That may have held up before the Mandalorian series, but after that, they have no excuse.
Halsey in this show went against the immense IQ of the Halsey in the game/books. For example, Halsey in the game/books wanted the Spartan children to know why they had been selected. She didn't lie about why they had been taken, nor about the fate of their parents. She knew that if the Spartans found out the truth later on, that they would turn on her. She chose to trust them. And it paid out. Game/books Halsey also said that brainwashing/memory wiping was a bad idea as it could lead to instability in the minds of the Spartans who needed to be scalpels of ruthless, hard-hitting military might. Yet Halsey in the show does 2 things: wipes the Spartans' memories of their past, and lies to them about their past. For being smart enough in this show to create genetically modified super soldiers, she sure was dumb about the future implications of her actions regarding their mental state and personal past.
If I could rate 0 stars, I would. This is a pathetic attempt to pull in a broad audience based on the hype surrounding a vast and complex Halo universe. Instead of catering to that community and allowing that community to hype the series to the broader audience, they sought the broader audience with poor story writing and deviated from an already beloved and established story. Now the community that loved the games/books is ripping this series to shreds, and it is permeating through into the broader audience. Paramount, you've shot yourself in the foot. Have fun limping your way to a public reputation bankruptcy.
