The dramatic structure of action begins powerfully and poignantly. Midway through the film, however, a deus ex machina resolves the central conflict. The choice Remi makes is not properly motivated either through plot or character development. We miss him achingly, feeling that we saw only his contour, not his character. The crime and punishment motif played out by Leo becomes, at times, tiresome, almost annoying, with his falling on the ice so repetitively and predictably. So what's this movie all about? Not that Leo loves Remi and their friendship less but that he loves not being perceived as gay more?
