I loved this book. Loved as much as I loved my books Misty of Chincoteague and Sea Star and Justin Morgan Had a Horse and Black Beauty and Ladd a Dog and all the Black Stallion books.
This book actually has Chincoteague in it. It has the powerful message "don't hurt animals" and "here's why, this is how bad people treat animals" of Black Beauty, plus the intrepid rescues of Ladd a Dog (on which Lassie was based).
It touches on autism, the justice system, boarding schools for girls having issues.
Um, instead of just making lists, I loved all the animals stuff and that it's a mystery with a critical deadline & an accusation of murder. I read it flat out like binge watching Mad Men. I cried at the end because it was so moving.
Highly recommend.
