Here’s the deal. If you just want a beach read without having to think then maybe you can let yourself be shocked by the ending. But in general people who read or watch thrillers are going to need a bit more.
*spoilers*
With in the first couple of chapters of reading, I keep asking, why is not a single person questioning “the jealous wife.” The book tries to force the assumption that it’s clearly Adam and he has no case in court by saying over and over he has no case. When in reality it looks like he has plenty of case and little motive. The first assumption to me was it’s either Sara or Scott. Maybe if they had followed that thought more in the first place to give Sara more time to clear herself early on but it seemed like the author was so terrified to shine any light that it might be Sarah that it really just placed a bigger light that it’s Sara. It’s also is clear that Adam does not trust Sara by trying to solve the case behind her back, while simultaneously groveling at her feet spilling his guts to her as if he has full confidence in her. I guess they wanted to make Sarah look smart and make Adam look dumb but it only made Adam look inconsistent at best. I love an unreliable narrator but there’s unreliable and then they’re just inaccurate first person thoughts.
