To be completely honest, the only good thing about this film is Alex Wolff’s acting. He shows quite a bit of emotional depth and this movie and gave a lot for a script that did not give him much. Literally the only good performance in this movie. Aside from the plot that felt like it was written in two hours because the writers got too excited about a potentially strong concept, the acting was the worst thing about this movie. There was one guy with the blood clots and I swear all he ever said was “it wasn’t me!” And “damn” just over and over again. The whole 6 year old being pregnant thing was so sick. I sincerely doubt two six year olds that just aged to teenagers would think the first thing they needed to do in their new bodies is sleep together. Thomasin Mckenzi is in this movie as the daughter grown up. She has a very strong accent and real life and failed pretty much the entire movie to cover it up, even though the child version of herself did not have an accent. I’m pretty sure they just kept her in this movie because of her recent up and coming like stardom. The portrayal of schizophrenia in this movie was unfortunately laughable. Things that should have been creepy or worrisome were laughable because of the dialogue and the acting. The plot moved fast which in most movies I see as a good thing, however it started to feel like they just wanted to speed things up and get to the big reveal (which honestly was not a huge reveal to me) so everything became rushed and the characters just started doing stupid things that resulted in death or situations. There’s also this scene in the cave with the calcium deficiency girl. That was probably the worst scene throughout the movie as far as horror goes. This is supposed to be a horror movie or a thriller, however, it lacked horror and thrill. Instead, I was just confused and annoyed by the characters actions. There wasn’t much keeping me on the edge of my seat until the last 20 or so minutes of the movie, and even then by that point I was ready to leave anyways. M. Night has been struggling to produce movies that affect people the same way his better ones do, however, I had hope for this film because I enjoyed Glass and Split. But honestly, I would prefer never seeing the movie in the first place and saving my money and my time. Did absolutely nothing for me.
