This book is a treasure, written by reliable sources, so I treasure it. I have seen most of the missions, and enjoyed their unique beauty many times. As A retired public school teacher, I taught the history of the missions for many years. It is required curriculum in the fourth grade. The children always enjoyed making models of a mission and learning about the history of our state.
The current violence , perpetrated by ignorant thugs, saddens me. Father Serra left his family and a comfortable life in Spain, and gave his life to teaching the early inhabitants of Mexico and California about God. He suffered many hardships, and , when he died, was loved and honored by the people he had given his life to help.
May this book reach many readers, and tell the true story of a brave and holy man.
