I re-watched both wreck it ralph movies recently and I hated the second one almost as much as I loved the first. I don't know why anytime a sequel comes out for a movie / show the target audience gets exponentially younger. It's frustrating because it should be the opposite since fans of the original are even more grown. Now, as a standalone movie, it's not horrible. The animation is amazing and it's overall fun and engaging, although some parts make me heave deep sighs and make me question why I'm wasting my time watching a kids' movie. Which is infuriating, considering that the first movie was still very much meant for kids but it didn't make you feel like you were losing braincells while listening to the dialogue and watching the plot unfold.
One of the things that stuck out to me in the first movie was the memorable soundtrack. WiR has a signature soundtrack that easily blends together with the retro visuals and overall concept of the movie. I still listen to sugar rush by AKB48 lol. I haven't really seen people talk about this but I rarely see movies these days (especially animated movies) that have memorable soundtracks / music. I don't know if I'm making sense but this how I feel.
I'm not gonna talk about ralph and venelope's character assassination since most reviews here have talked about it in depth. The problem I'm gonna mention is: WHY is the message forced down our throats?? It feels like the writers don't know how to use subtext properly and the characters seem to be overacting to the max just to sell a dumb message which btw doesn't fit the characters one bit.
