Iโm a fan of Turkish series, and I watch them with English subtitles. Iโve been watching Endless Love (Kara Sevda) for a while now and have reached episode 151 (of over 200). Iโm questioning whether to continue.
Initially, I was drawn in by the two male leads, whose performances Iโd enjoyed in other shows. The story started promisingly, but it has become frustratingly unrealistic. Iโve considered quitting several times but kept hoping for improvement. Sadly, it hasnโt come.
One major issue is Emirโs character, thatโs written with near-superhuman powers. Heโs always one step ahead of Kemal and Nihan, predicting every move. This happens so consistently that it feels absurd and insulting.
Another frustration is Emirโs employees. Every single one obeys his evil orders without question. Not one shows a shred of morality or resistance. Itโs unrealistic that every single character can be bought or manipulated, and it leaves viewers feeling the plot is hopelessly rigged.
This imbalance between good and evil drains the show of any credibility. Watching evil constantly triumph is neither entertaining nor believable, especially when the point of watching is enjoyment, not constant frustration. Even if things change near the end, it may be too late because many frustrated viewers, like myself, will have given up.
Nihanโs character is another disappointment. Instead of being a strong, admirable heroine, sheโs passive, naรฏve, and endlessly undermines Kemalโs efforts to expose Emir. Her lack of insight is painful to watch and makes her unlikable. Even at episode 151, I still canโt understand why Kemal loves her.
Kemal himself, though initially a compelling hero, becomes frustrating too. He endures betrayal after betrayal by his siblings, Nihan, and his fiancรฉe Asu, yet never truly holds them accountable. This too feels implausible and erodes viewer investment.
A more balanced portrayal of good and evil would have made the series far better. The actors playing Kemal and Emir are excellent, but the writing fails them. Some viewers whom I've spoken to, share my disappointment. This could have been a great series if the writers had given us reasons to care. Instead, itโs unbalanced and exhausting, with Emir and his minions overshadowing everyone and triumphing constantly. This is neither satisfying nor believable.
Update- Don't waste your time watching this. It's over 200 hrs of watching evil flourishing and going unpunished. I kept watching hoping that good would eventually triumph but unfortunately, it didn't. I have watched many but this is the worst Turkish series I have ever watched. The writers fumbled this very badly ๐
