TLDR on the bottom.
For those “hardcore fans” that claim this show is worth while, don’t listen. This show is comically bad, trying to induce a nostalgic trip for the actual hardcore fans but fails miserably. The constant flashback sequences that overload you with insecurities of prepubescent teens are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the poor story telling. The story forces you to believe that the nuclear weapon used on Raccoon City was covered up, which leads the story’s younger cast to search for answers. Actual fans of the series would understand that Raccoon City was eradicated with the use of Thermobaric Missile. Not a nuke. Umbrella became under siege and suffered throughout the initial installments of the game. Raccoon City incident was also not covered up. To add insult to injury, there was a character who was used as an exploiter for this horrendous plot, but for story development, was killed off as soon as their intentions were made known to the viewer. There are too many moments in which you will find yourself asking; why don’t they just get to the point? Or, why does this feels forced? It’s because the point is so convoluted and hidden behind what seems like a very poor adaptation on 5 minutes of research, and it’s force fed down your throat as gospel. The video game has been out for a very long time, and the source material is still being used incorrectly and disrespectfully. Heck, there are more scenes of constant bickering and mindless babbling than there are zombies and bio-weapons. Zombies are called “Zero”, with almost 40 years in this story since the outbreak, and Zero is the name that was chosen to be universal name for the zombies. Take that as you will. Any action scene follows the RE movie franchise formula of chaos with no reloads. Very very bland action at that. Now that bad stuff out of the way, the only semi decent aspects the show has got going for them are if you have never played an Resident Evil game, sure you may enjoy it since it does bring a lot of light to the series for someone to get into it. But that will lead to a huge disappointment when you realize how inaccurately the source material was used. Only thing I will say is if this was NOT named Resident Evil and all the content was altered to avoid copyright infringement, this show would have a good standing for a post zombie apocalyptic story. Otherwise, the use of the name to draw in viewers is downright disrespectful.
TLDR; don’t watch if you believe this show carry’s on the legacy of the original lore.
