Although a very slow burner until the second half, this book is a beautifully written, haunting read. The quality of the dense, descriptive language is incredible! The story itself in all honesty is deeply sad and could be nothing else as it investigates the long term direct and 'knock on' damage caused by abuse perpetrated by some in the church. However, the book isn't all sad as it also celebrates the enduring power of love and the happiness we can find in little things.
I loved this book and would now like to reread it in the light of my current, retrospective knowledge of what is actually happening in the early chapters!
