I saw the movie last night and liked it very much. I have not read the book. I am 89 years old and can relate to the older generation and their longing for freedom. I can appreciate the older men and their characters in the film not wanting to face being dependent on their family or live in an old age home. It was good to depict each man in the film so different individually in their desires of what they needed and desired most. I will eventually order the book and will enjoy reading it I am sure. I am proud this is a Canadian film and also appreciate the location, the characters chosen and the subject matter of the older generation so rarely shown in a film. I must say it was a wonderful film and a job well done. I am a writer and just finished a book called The Untold Story of Italian Canadians WWII. Although my ancestors were born in England, my husband was Sicilian and I knew nothing until recently about how Italian Canadians were incarcerated into camps in Canada and charged with fascism during WWII when they were completely innocent.
