Meh! I guess we aren't supposed to really compare this to the absolute gem original Roadhouse with Swayze, Elliott (Wade) & Lynch (Elizabeth). Really, there can be no comparison because the original had heart as Dalton connected with several of the town people who had businesses being ruined by Gazzara (Wesley), not to mention his romance with Elizabeth. This reimagined 2024 version had no emotional connection of characters. Unless you call the very thin interactions between Dalton & Charlie the bookstore teen. Even his "friendship" with Ellie after What, one date? Again, no real connection. The original 1989 movie had a run time of 1hr 54min without credits; 2024 version 1hr 54 min, yet the original was able to establish relationships and connections that made Dalton's fighting believable, gave it purpose. This 2024 version lacked that aspect. The bar owner served herself (I had mo use for her chatacter at all) and her business solely, whereas the original was a town fight over one man's tyrannical, shady business practices and overall greed. And there was also the fact that Wesley wanted Elizabeth so there was that.
Overall, I only give this a 2 rating because I did watch the whole movie over 2 nights; I lost interest and had to tune in again to see what the train wreck wrought.
BTW, is it me or was the lighting awful? So dark & shadowy some detail was lost.
Bottom line for me ... "Hollywood should leave the great movies alone and write some original material. It's like the creators are still on strike. Then again, maybe better innings the pipeline. *Fingers crossed*
