Went to watch it with high expectations, but it honestly managed to just go above and beyond all that and blow me away. It was probably the most tripping movie I've ever seen. Wild, crazy and going absolutely bonkers from start till end. At every point you feel that this movie could turn out to be almost too frenzy, almost too weird, almost too absurdist, almost too much to take in. Almost. Yet, it somehow just manages to perfectly fit in all the big concepts of absurdism , existential dread, the appeal of nihilism alongwith the simplicity of doing taxes with the one you love and choosing kindness everytime, 'especially when you're too confused to make sense of anything else.' It'about generational trauma, the harsh reality of the immigrant experience, of the specific kind of hurt that mothers cause daughters and daughters cause mothers and the fact that despite all that, how they would continue to choose each other over and over again. Nothing matters, so it's better to do what you love and be kind. It's about what you can make of life and what you can't and that in all our successes and failures exist countless opportunities to expand ourselves in limitless ways. The sentient rock scene, the universe where there are hotdogs for fingers...there are scenes that crack you up and then there are scenes that can make you into a sobbing mess. Michelle Yeoh simply killed it and all the other actors throughout the whole movie were superb as well. All in all it was absurd, crazy, hilarious, darkly comedic, spreading the profound message of kindness and simultaneously all of it making perfect sense in the end. Maybe not everyone will like it, it's too fast paced, taking impressionism and absurdism to an alarmingly high level and doesn't necessarily hand you everything in a silver platter. But if you're willing to stretch yourself to the limits and make an effort to decipher it, this movie is a cinematic masterpiece that definitely deserves a watch. A 10/10 for me.
P.S : In a world where hot dogs are our fingers, we get really good with our feet.
