While not on par with The Orville, it's also not really trying to be as a space sci/comedy. It's nice to see something different try to come along. The jokes seemed a little rushed but the show has promise. Considering the alternatives are reboots desperately clawing onto past successes, repeats of the greats of yesteryear, or in-your-face biased political or agenda-driven garbage.
Seeing other reviewers knee-jerk reactions are like when GoT first released. NYT, VOX, Salon, Time, WP and Slate all gave terrible reviews. So watch and decide for yourself. If it's your kind of show, support it. If not, watch something else and stop being narcissistic and self-important.
Personally, I didn't expect to, but I burst out laughing one time. I also laughed at Hugh's inept medical comments so sharply inversely mirroring House. The writing could use some finesse, but I'm glad to see at least something NEW. It reminded me somewhat of a futuristic Gilligan's Island meets Voyager. Both of which also got terrible initial reviews but turned out to be classics.
