This has aged very badly. Superior, yet really inferior public school attitudes. Melodramatic, post silent acting. Sexist, paternalistic Olivier. Submissive, acquiescent Fontaine. Hitchcock's most misogynistic output. Thank god we live in more egalitarian times.

Badly written, melodramatic, overacted, too wordy, slow, laborious, boring and dated. Apart from that it was not very good.

Three hours that could have easily been condensed into 90 minutes. The slowest film I've seen for a a a a g g g g e e e s s s s s - zzzzzzzz.

Brilliantly watchable and at the same time unwatchable. I've just seen the first episode and feel I've just gone 12 rounds with Tyson. I may have to ration myself and watch each episode occasionally in order to recover from the previous one. Wonderfully written, acted and produced.

Non-stop tension from the very start. Great.
