They did not slouch on the special effects. As would be predicted from a major Hollywood production, the visual effects were stunning. The storyline was nonexistent. The movie was rushed so much that it could’ve been three movies if it were told better.
Kids will love it, friends of King Kong will love it.
Anyone who knows kaiju will recognize some familiar shapes from Toho that were reused, and the names changed to protect the innocent Or whatever. Why they just couldn’t call them what they were, I don’t really know.
They called Mothra Mothra after all.
If you’re an adult taking your children… It will probably be boring, but if you’re a fan of special effects and some decent 80s classic rock, it’s worth seeing.
If you’re a fan of kaiju films? You might want to pass this up. The film really just panders, though it’s probably the first time in a kaiju film, where the Hometown favorite runs into some trouble, enlist the help of an unlikely ally, and the two of them tag team the bad guy and poof! The world is once again safer, democracy, or whatever.
Although, if you’re eight years old… You probably haven’t seen this story told 5783 times already. If you can stream it at home that’s probably perfect, at least then you can say “yeah I saw it… It was aaight”
