Ryan Craze

Certainly inspired by the novel of the same name, and without reference to the book it holds up as a pacy historical drama. But not much of the book’s plot, character arcs and tone is found here. By the end of episode 2 I felt personally offended for what they did to Ellen’s arc, and Alfred is supposed to be a brute, not a schemer as portrayed here. The ‘relationship’ William and his mother have is, erm, an interesting interpretation of their characters. IMHO they’ve strayed too far from the source material and ended up with a substandard story. A shame but that means the door is still open for a faithful retelling without repeating the watered-down characters and sub-plots found in this miniseries.
