For a period of time, I was looking hard for a serious game to play by searching for the best PC games. This game NEVER showed up in my searches. Never. No one ranks it as one of the top 10 or even top 20 PC games. But after spending 100+ hours on it in late 2023, I found it to be THE best PC game for me (at least in the same category, open-world single player PRG). Better than GTA5, Elden ring, Witcher 3 (those are usually the best PC games ranked online in this category). And here are my reasons. 1: the sheer size of the map. The map size is 130 km^2, which is 60% larger than GTA5’s massive map. Also, the setup of mimicking real Greek islands makes it feel ever bigger, with each island being a separate world (ranging from snowy mountain areas, foliage colored towns to blue tropical beaches). The game also sets up great quests to guide you through each area, which would not let you feel any area is meaningless. 2: The richness of the content. The game has at least 5 major playable systems. 1-main storyline 2-unveil and hunt the cult members 3-find Atlantis by fighting Greek mythology monsters, like Medusa. 4–hunting mercenaries and fighting in the area. 5: weaken the control of either Sparta for Athens in each area, and eventually help one side to fight in an open field war. Those five systems can easily extend your play time to over 100 hrs, let alone countless side missions and stories. 3: Deep connection to the real history of the Greek world. I vaguely knew Sparta, Socrates and Greek – Persian wars before I played the game. Besides the main story, which already involves many real historical figures, the game has a set of special mission storylines called Tales of the Greece, which brings the players to experience and learn some of the most famous and interesting Greece history tales. Now I know much more about Sparta, Athens, Socrates and his students. Lastly, I would say the graphics of this game matches any modern game. When you stand on the sync points all over the map (usually a beautiful view point), you can appreciate the amount of work and art the game makers have put in it. If I have to say what is the down side of the game. The only thing I would say is that the combat system is not challenging enough (I played hard for the 50 levels and nightmare for the 50+ levels). In particular, the enemies (Captains in the forts, mercenaries, elite cults etc) should have much stronger special skills. The player already has the assassination advantage. Killing enemies becomes easy and relatively repetitive after you gain all the major skills. But still this is THE BEST PC GAME I ever played. I cannot recommend more to anyone who loves open world adventures and history.
