A very compelling premise, divided into two parts - the first part had strong character development and we gather enough information to presume how each character’s arc will look. The second part, however, indeed the part that gives this review only two stars, takes an utterly bizarre turn. We go from this wholesome story about a postman with low self-esteem to an attempt at a cult thriller aesthetic that is neither actually thrilling nor intriguing. Furthermore, the characters cease to change much after this; we don’t circle back to the main idea of the protagonist’s envy of his late mothers immense, artistic talent and his low self-esteem - the final chapter leaves the story on a strange, inconclusive note aside from implying that the protagonist may have a new love interest.
